I figured it wasn't worth a damn or fitting for that matter after the tragedy that happened at the Boston Marathon to write my original post on the benefits of using Apple Cider Vinegar. At this point, who really cares about apple cider vinegar. Although, after being in Boston on Monday to enjoy a long over due "day date" with my husband watching the Red Sox and enjoying the Marathon, to then have it cut short by this senseless act of terrorism was very scary and unsettling to say the least. I felt like I needed to write about it. We were probably about a 1/2 a mile away from the explosions when they happened and I know the fear I felt trying to flee the area, I can only imagaine what the hell those poor, innocent victims were feeling whose lives are now forever changed by this. I don't know about you, but Im struggling with this. Im struggling with feeling helpless and scared watching the news yesterday and today. Im struggling  with realizing this is the world we live in...and as I look at my girls, I struggle with  knowing the world I grew up in as a child is long gone. My kids and yours are not going to have the care free childhood that we had. That's not to say Im not going to do my absolute best to try and give it to them, but the reality is, we are up against a much more dangerous and unpredictable world now. The emotions Im feeling over this tragedy is of course anger, but more so than ever there is this underlying, overwhelming sadness. Im just so sad that our children have to grow up in a world where bombs go off at major events and schools get shot up by crazy lunatics. Our children, in all their sweet innocence have to deal and fall victim to these unspeakable tragedies even though we try our hardest as parents to protect them. Im sad because their innocence is slowly getting chipped away. Piece by piece, tragedy by tragedy...it's our children who will suffer the most from these acts of violence because they are our future and the future is a scary place.

Change is a hard thing to come to terms with. After 911, American's lives drastically changed forever, but little by little we were able to get back to our "new normal." There have been other senseless acts of violence since then, most recently the Masacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, and now the explosions at the Boston Marathon. Im sure from Sandy Hook, the way we protect our children at school will forever change and quite possibly the way sporting events are held may change after this tragedy. These changes in our lives were not asked for, but are now necessary for our day to day protection. Going through all these emotions, I stop and think how the hell did we get to this point?

So after grappling for the past two days with all these emotions and feeling such a sense of helplessness, I decided I'm going to continue to do what any damn good (non practicing) Catholic would do, Im going to get down on my knees and continue to pray. Im going to pray for the victims and their families, for all the wonderful first responders, by standers, doctors and nurses who risked their lives to save others. Im going to pray for Boston and all its magnificence! No one, but the people who are from here can truly understand how special and resilient Boston is. Im going to pray for the asshole(s) who did this because I will not let their hate and evil ways get the best of me. I refuse! Im a true believer in karma...what goes around comes around. You do not do something so horrific like this and get away with it. So Im going to continue to pray because I believe in the power of prayer.

I feel the best thing to do... when you don't exactly know what to do... is to simply... pray.

I learned about the awesomeness of coconut oil a few years ago. I read about its MANY wonderful uses and benefits both internally and externally on the body, so I decided to give it a whirl.  I am so glad I did! Coconut Oil has become a staple in my house for so many reasons!

Here is just a brief list of the wonderful benefits and uses of coconut oil:

1. Hair-it can be used as a great deep conditioning treatment for your hair. Massaging it into the scalp can also help rid dandruff, lice, and lice eggs!
2. Skin- use it as a moisturizer for the face and body. This is a big one for me! My face has never felt or looked better since using coconut oil daily. It has diminished redness in my face, brown spots, and softens fine lines. When I wake up in the morning my face is so soft and hydrated. LOVE IT as a moisturizer!
3. Lubricant- when you and your partner are getting it on (for lack of better words)-throw out the KY Jelly and use coconut oil instead! Works just as well (if not better) and its all natural for our lady and gentleman parts!
4. "Anti" everything- coconut oil has anti fungal, anti microbial and anti bacterial properties that make it useful for so many ailments: cuts, bruises, infections, candida overgrowth, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, diaper rashes and the list keeps going! It's very soothing on the body.
5. Dental care- helps prevent cavaties and gum disease. I mix coconut oil in with my toothpaste!
6. Helps decrease cholesterol and high blood pressure and helps prevent heart problems because it is high in lauric acid, capric and capryllic acid.
7. Cooking-coconut oil tolerates high heat temperatures better than any other oil, therefore it doesn't break down and become rancid like many other oils do when cooking. (believe it or not)
8. Improves digestive system and thryoid function.
9. Studies are now showing coconut oil helps with Alzheimer's Disease!
10. It has a natural, great smell of coconuts!!

As always there are higher quality brands than others on the market. I love NUTIVA'S Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. I find it has the best taste and smell. It is cold pressed , so they do not use high heat when extracting the oil or bleaching to get rid of impurities. So do yourself and your body a favor and go buy some coconut oil and keep it as a staple in your bathroom and kitchen!!!
